I hope you enjoyed the first part of my day in Sonoma. So let me finish off the day with what we did next. Today I'm focusing on some delicious food...I know your mouth will be watering after seeing how delicious it looks ;)
After wine tastings at BR Cohn and Ledson, we headed into downtown Sonoma for a bite to eat. We hadn't had lunch yet and it was about 4 in the afternoon, so where did we stop? Why, the popular
The Girl and The Fig restaurant. I have really become a lover of French food (not all, but I'm broadening my horizons). All in all, this restaurant deserves all the hype it has received...the food was delicious and the staff were all nice and accommodating!
Wow, this restaurant was absolutely delicious! If you are in Sonoma, this is a must stop!! The interiors were cozy and inviting. Oh, and did I mention it was absolutely slammed at 4:00 PM?! We didn't have a reservation, but luckily since it was rainy and cold, the covered and heated patio wasn't full, so we sat there.
We started out with a nice charcuterie and cheese plate. I enjoyed the charcuterie part more than the cheese part. But we had 3 cheese, all from Sonoma area: cow, goat, and sheep. I can't remember what meats we head, but do know one was duck, which was scrumdeliomptuous (sp?).
I had Croques Madame, which officially isn't on the menu, but you can add an egg to the menus Croques Monsieur. What I loved most, was when I ordered the Croques Monsieur, the waiter asked if I wanted to add an egg on the sandwich before I even said I'd like to...he was reading my mind. The sandwich was served with homemade pickles and a quinoa salad. It was so good; I couldn't even eat half of the sandwich because it was so huge. No worries, we took it home for leftovers.
The hubs and Angela ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with a tomato confit and matchstick fries. And oh my word, those fries were amazing! Again, the sandwiches were so big neither one could finish them, so leftovers again. By the way, I love tomato in my grilled cheese. If you haven't tried, you must.
Angela's husband, Ben, ordered the Duck Confit. I'm not a huge duck fan, but it was the best duck I've ever tasted!!! Needless to say, Ben finished his. I cannot wait to go back to Sonoma and Napa, and eat here again!
After finishing our lunch/dinner, we walked around Sonoma Square. Even though it was dark and rainy, the little town was just what I pictured it would be, cozy with a small town feel. They had the buildings decorated for Christmas, which I loved!

After walking around the square, we headed to
Envolve Winery. They do not have an actual vineyard, but get their grapes from several different vineyards (many smaller wineries do this). So just a tasting room. At Envolve, all of their wines are organic and they even have some that are biodynamic.

After a long day of tasting wine (by the way, the wine samples are pretty large, make sure you have a DD or hire a driver to tote you around Sonoma/Napa--I was the DD for most of this trip), we headed back to our condo, and played flip cup and beer pong. Yes, we channeled our inner college life and busted out some drinking games. Drum roll, please, Angela & I kicked some butt, beating the boys!!

I can't wait to share with you photos from our 2 hour car ride through Sonoma County--featuring redwoods from the Redwood Forest and the Pacific Coast!! I got some unbelievable shots!!
I want to go on a wine tasting trip, sounds like so much fun! The lunch spot looks great and your sandwich looks delicious! Sounds like a perfect night if it ends with beerpong in your pj's ;)
